Presented by Dr. Taylere M. Markewich, PhD, LP, LMFT

Where: Online via Zoom (After registering, you will receive a Zoom link for the conference.)

Program Overview

All mental health professionals, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, are welcome.

In this two-hour presentation and Q&A session, speaker Dr. Taylere M. Markewich, PhD, LP, LMFT will provide attendees an overview of metabolic psychiatry and how its principles can be utilized by psychologists in their practice. Metabolic psychiatry views metabolic health as a mediating factor in mental health functioning, and metabolic health is impacted by what we eat. Taylere will share the latest research on the types of foods and micronutrients in the modern food environment in the U.S., such as sugar, seed oils, and ultra-processed foods (UPFs) that have been correlated with depression and anxiety disorders, as well as more severe psychiatric diagnosis, such as bipolar I & II, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. She will describe how mental health practitioners, across professions, are using the latest data to update their own treatment protocols and bring into the discussion the relationship between food, inflammation, and emotional regulation in their practices. Information on best practices and available training will also be provided, and the presentation will conclude with a Q&A discussion.
